Planning for 2018

2017 has been very different from 2016 for me. In 2016, I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to carry on with all this writing nonsense. My day-to-day work was very hectic, I spent a lot of time travelling to visit clients, and my skillset was 100% digital marketing focused. In 2016, I couldn’t see that changing anytime soon.

But it did change, in a big way. I put some more emphasis on being an author and decided to learn more about publishing. I already knew a lot about marketing and digital concepts, so the idea of learning about selling books wasn’t that far removed from what I was already doing. After all, most books are sold as eBooks on digital platforms and a lot of marketing is digitally focused.

It’s only recently that I realised that I’d accidentally become quite knowledgeable about publishing. I would never use the word expert because the sector is enormous and changing all the time. Even in the short amount of time that I have been writing, there have been huge changes in the publishing landscape. But I have discovered a lot. I know more about editing, cover design, formatting, production, printing, and writing. I’m about to release my fifth novel and I can see a huge change in my writing style, one I’m very happy with.

And so, 2017 is coming to an end and 2018 is on the way. I love the period of time between Christmas and New Year, not because of the time away from work but because it allows me the chance to plan. Some of the biggest, life-changing decisions I have ever had pop into my brain during this period of time. I’ve done some preliminary planning and I have a rough publishing schedule ready for 2018 and I’m excited to get started!

I’m one of those strange people who find change exciting and fun. And so I’m really looking forward to the changes that 2018 is going to bring. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time read my books, and an extra special thank you to those who review as well. I quite literally couldn’t do this without you.
